Obituary of David A. Del Grosso

DAVID A. DEL GROSSO Latham- David A. Del Grosso, 90 of Latham, beloved husband of the late Lucy Kazlauskas Del Grosso, entered into eternal life on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home with his loving family at his side. Born in Schenectady on November 29, 1926, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Maria Rubino Del Grosso. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and Siena College in Loudonville. David served in the U.S. Army overseas in the "Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations" in Yokahoma, Japan from 1945 until 1946. He received the Army Occupation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married his beloved Lucy Kazlauskas on February 10, 1968 and the two shared a loving marriage of 36 years prior to her passing October 16, 2004. He worked at ALCO- The American Locomotive Company for several years. He then began his career with Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady where he was a lead chemist for emission spectroscopy working on fuel materials for Navy nuclear reactors for over 30 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Hudson-Mohawk Chapter of American Theatre Organ Society and a longtime communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham. David was an avid fan of the Siena Saints basketball team and the NY Yankees. He loved to read, was a history buff and was an expert at all kinds of puzzles, especially crosswords and sudoku. David loved to tell stories, recite poems and anecdotes. He had a great sense of humor and wit. David will always be remembered for his kind and caring generosity. He always thought of others and tried to fulfill their needs. David also established the Lucy Kazlauskas Del Grosso Scholarship at Siena College in memory of his late wife. Survivors include his loving niece Aileen (Richard) Svec of Glenville, nephews David (Barbara) O'Brien and Paul O'Brien both of Schenectady, niece Kathleen (Lanny) Rosenbaum of Glenville and many other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 4 great nieces and many great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his sister Lena Del Grosso O'Brien and his nephew Stephen O'Brien. David's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday October 25, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Rev. Brian Kelly, pastor officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Interment will be next to his wife in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
