MARY K. MATTHEWS
Latham- Mary K. Matthews of Latham passed away peacefully on Saturday September 9, 2017 at the Capital Living Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady with her loving family at her side.
Born February 15, 1923 in Troy, Mary was the daughter of the late Martin and Margaret Kane. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband John J. Matthews on April 12th 1999. They were married on July 14, 1946 and shared 53 cherished years together.
Mary was a 1941 graduate of Catholic Central High School. She was a Bookkeeper, employed with Plumbers Local #7 in Albany, working there for 14 years before retiring in 1980. She also worked for NY Telephone for 6 years. Mary was a former member of Colonie Elks #2192 Ladies Auxiliary and Young at Heart Senior Group at the St. Ambrose Church in Latham. Mary was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham.
Survivors include her children Barbara A. Willoughby of Duanesburg, Jay (Denise) Matthews of Dade City Florida and Patrick T. Matthews of Latham. Her cherished grandchildren Colleen (Robert) Tarpey of Long Island, and greatgrandson William John Tarpey. She is also survived by her brother William (Carol) Kane and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mary had been predeceased by her brothers, John Kane and Robert Kane
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday September 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Pastor Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Road Latham.
Interment will take place with her beloved husband at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
