Obituary of Daniel Joseph Tubbs

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
DANIEL JOSEPH TUBBS Latham- Daniel Joseph Tubbs, 65, entered into the gates of Heaven on Monday, August 21st, 2017 at his home. Dan, in his unassuming way, was the most kind, loving and giving person. His superior intelligence was only matched by his quick, dry sense of humor. Dan was born on January 22, 1952 in Albany, New York. He graduated with honors from Shaker High School in 1970 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics at the University of Albany in 1978. Dan, after many years of service retired from the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance as an administrator where he was loved and respected by his co-workers. In his later years, Dan continued his love for math and science enjoying many other activities like being a champion scrabble player and master chess player. He also loved doing Sudoku puzzles but, would only accept doing the most challenging level puzzles as Dan desired to challenge himself every day intellectually. He also loved watching National Geographic specials on television along with any tennis matches and especially, Olympic gymnastics. Dan's greatest love was for his family and his longtime companion, his Boston Terrier Bonnie. Dan used to ask for the steak leftovers after a party, not for himself, but so that his Bonnie could have a special treat when he got home. Dan's love for Bonnie was immeasurable and his love for all animals was equally strong. He cared for all animals a great deal. The happiest we have seen Dan has been in the last year since he moved into his new home, closer to his family and in a place where he adored being with Bonnie. We will live with happy memories of the Christmas tree decorating parties that Dan threw specifically for his girls and he we will all so sincerely miss him beyond belief. Dan is survived by his brother Edward M. Tubbs (Janet) of Virginia, Peggy G. Gwynn of Cohoes, Nancy G. Hanna (Bob), of Waterford, Patricia A. Manning (Bryan) of Latham, and Jeanette M. Shippey (Ted) of Cohoes. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews, Bryan M. Tubbs (Lynda), Molly C. Gwynn, Jamie L. Myers (Ron), Stephen M. Lawless (Caillin), Katelynn R. Hanna, Nicholas J. Manning (Amina), Sydney A. Manning and Lola S. Shippey. He was also Godfather to Lola which was a special bond to both of them. He is predeceased by his father John H. Tubbs, his mother Mary Lou Tubbs, with whom he shared a special bond and his Nana Grace M. Towey. Memorial services for Dan will be celebrated on Monday August 28, at 7:00 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, with Fr. Brian Kelly officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Dan's name to either the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or the Town of Colonie Senior Citizen's Center, two charities loved by Dan. Dan walked with a spiritual and quiet fortitude but made a powerhouse impression in this world. He will be so deeply missed.
