Menands-John B. Garrett, Jr., 83, of Menands, passed peacefully on July 5, 2010, with his loving family at his side.
Born on May 26, 1927 in Albany, he was the only son of the late Jane Sammon and John B. Garrett, Sr. John was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and Siena College. He was a communicant of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville.
John was a Navy veteran of WWII, he was an ETM3C. He was the President and CEO of John B. Garrett, Inc., a medical supply and equipment firm in Troy. He was a founding member and past Chairman of the Board of ABCO Dealers, Inc. as well as Board member of the Eddy Visiting Nurses of the Capital Region.
John was an avid golfer. He was a Lifetime Member of Wolfert's Roost Country Club and President of the ROB's. He was a member of the Capital District Genealogical Society, Colonie Chapter AARP, a member of the Sons of the Spanish American War, and a former member of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen and his loving children: John B. (Margaret) Garrett III, Cynthia (Christian) Tomain, Thomas (Pattie) Garrett, Amy (David) Peters, Christopher (Suzanne) Garrett, Gail (Tony) Kirby, Mary Helen (Robert) Morris & Gregory (Joanna) Garrett and twenty grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. .
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday July 9, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church 23 Crumitie Rd. Loudonville with Rev. Michael Farano officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Rd. Latham, on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
